Leona Graham is a voiceover artist and presenter at Absolute Radio, based in London. In 2020, she had outgrown her existing website and turned to us to create a brand new site that would better represent her and her work.
The objective was to create a mobile-responsive website with a clean structure and strong rock'n'roll vibe. Importantly, it needed to preserve her original content and build on it by reflecting new areas of her work, such as her Rock'N'Road podcast.
Developing a rock'n'roll design
After taking the time to understand what Leona wanted from her new website, we set about incorporating her ideas, requests and comments into a practical website design.
We developed wireframes and colourful design mockups to bring our website concepts to life. From these, Leona approved a dark theme, accented by a striking deep purple colour, featuring classic guitar silhouettes like the Gibson Explorer and SG.
Next, we translated the mockups into a fully-functional and mobile-ready HTML website. To complete the desired look and feel, we peppered the front-end with small details and effects: a jumping sound wave that stretches down the whole website, interactive images and tilting upon hovering.
These subtle animations amplified the site's personality and, now, visitors enjoy a striking visual experience whenever they navigate the site.
A simple but effective website structure
We prioritised creating an efficient website layout that visitors could easily navigate. As the main point of entry, the homepage showcases Leona and her work. Visitors are encouraged to carry on the conversation on social media through an integrated Twitter feed and bespoke Instagram photo feed.
Dedicated website pages then tell the story of Leona's biography, radio career and projects. Visitors can easily find her radio timetable to tune into, and follow her new Rock'N'Road podcast series, thanks to simple navigation.
Maximising the website’s impact
Being a website relaunch, it was important to build on Leona’s previous website. So, we carefully retained her original content, but also her old URLs to maintain their rankings within search engine results.
Next, we meticulously optimised the website: each page was compressed and its size minimised, while content was set to only display when needed. This ensured a fast loading speed and smoother scrolling – both important for a better visitor experience.
Additionally, we prepared the website for further SEO-optimisation by including all the essential elements: meta-tags, Open Graph tags for sharing links on social media and messengers, various robots.txt files and sitemaps.
After testing all aspects of the website and receiving Leona’s approval, the website successfully launched in late 2020.
